National Workshop on Country Youth Position for COP31
" A National Workshop on Country Youth Position for COP31 was held on 15 September 2026 to bring together community perspectives from six climate-vulnerable regions of Bangladesh and strengthen a unified national youth voice for COP31. Organized by Brighters in collaboration with 30 partner youth organizations, with support from the Department of Environment (Climate Wing), the workshop focused on translating grassroots experiences into a nationally endorsed Country Youth Position."
The National Workshop on Country Youth Position for COP31 was held on 15 September 2026 at the Department of Environment in Agargaon, Dhaka. The workshop brought together youth organizations and stakeholders to consolidate community voices and climate priorities emerging from different regions of Bangladesh.
Mohammad Navid Safiullah, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, attended the workshop as the Chief Guest and contributed institutional perspectives to the national youth climate policy process.
The workshop followed community consultations conducted across six climate-vulnerable regions of Bangladesh: Bagerhat, Barishal, Rangamati, Noakhali, Netrokona, and Kurigram. These consultations provided an opportunity to document local experiences, concerns, and priorities related to climate change and ensure that the realities of climate-affected communities are reflected in national climate advocacy.
Brighters, together with 30 partner youth organizations, brought these regional perspectives into a collective national process with support from the Department of Environment (Climate Wing). The initiative seeks to strengthen coordination among youth organizations and create a common platform for communicating young people’s climate priorities.
A key objective of the process is to develop a nationally endorsed Country Youth Position for COP31. The position is expected to be supported by a policy brief, advocacy toolkit, and documentary, helping communicate grassroots experiences and youth perspectives to national policymakers and the international climate community.
The workshop reflected the principle of “From the frontlines to the front table,” emphasizing the importance of ensuring that the experiences and priorities of climate-vulnerable communities inform national and global climate discussions.
Through this collaborative process, youth organizations are working to strengthen meaningful youth participation in climate policy, advocacy, and international climate negotiations ahead of COP31.
