On 16 October 2026, a human chain was organised in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka ahead of the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. The event called for greater global economic equality, the protection of workers’ rights, and fair compensation for the losses and damages caused by climate change.
Led by Dhora (DHORA) and Waterkeepers Bangladesh, the initiative brought together 36 civic and social organisations advocating for a more equitable economic system and stronger climate action. OAB Foundation participated in the programme, represented by its President, Asaduzzaman Tohin.
Participants called for an economic system that prioritises people’s livelihoods, fundamental rights, and access to essential services. They also demanded fair, grant-based climate compensation rather than additional debt for communities affected by climate-related loss and damage.
The human chain further highlighted the need to protect coastal communities, ensure adequate financing for essential public services, and increase investment in renewable energy. These demands reflected the importance of connecting economic justice with climate responsibility and sustainable development, particularly for vulnerable communities facing the impacts of climate change.
OAB Foundation recognises that global economic equality, climate justice, and the protection of human rights are interconnected priorities. Collective action, meaningful public participation, and international cooperation are essential to building a fairer, greener, and more sustainable future for Bangladesh and the world.
