One Time Plastic Free Hatirjheel Project

OAB Foundation successfully completed the One Time Plastic Free Hatirjheel project, an initiative focused on reducing single-use plastic consumption and promoting environmentally responsible practices in one of Dhaka’s important urban public spaces. The project was implemented by OAB Foundation in collaboration with ActionAid Bangladesh and the British Council, with support from Global Platform Bangladesh. As part of the project, OAB Foundation volunteers conducted a field-level survey among shops in the Hatirjheel area to assess the use and quantity of single-use plastic. The survey aimed to generate a better understanding of current plastic consumption patterns and identify opportunities for reducing unnecessary plastic use. The information collected through the survey will contribute to future awareness-building initiatives, policy advocacy, community engagement, and evidence-based actions aimed at reducing plastic pollution. The project also highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in addressing the growing challenge of plastic pollution. By engaging local businesses, communities, young people, and volunteers, the initiative encouraged practical steps toward creating a cleaner and more environmentally friendly urban environment. Through the One Time Plastic Free Hatirjheel project, OAB Foundation continues to promote environmental awareness, sustainable consumption, youth volunteerism, and community-led action for a greener future.
