On 9 September 2025, a prominent and symbolic protest gathering was held to protect the Sundarbans, Hilsa fish, and salt production from the harmful impacts of coal-based power generation. The event was organized as part of a global campaign initiated by the Asian Energy Network and the Asian Peoples’ Movement on Debt and Development ahead of the United Nations General Assembly, calling on world leaders to accelerate the transition away from coal and adopt renewable energy solutions. The gathering highlighted growing concerns over environmental degradation, public health risks, and livelihood losses associated with coal-fired power plants operating in ecologically sensitive regions of Bangladesh. The protest gathering was jointly organized by Dhoritri Rokkhay Amra (DHORA), Bangladesh Krishak Federation, Brighters, Centre for Atmospheric Pollution Studies (CAPS), Climate Frontier, Centre for Participatory Research and Development (CPRD), Environmental Research and Development Alternatives (ERDA), EquityBD, Global Law Thinkers Society (GLTS), Khasia Students Union, Mission Green Bangladesh, OAB Foundation, River Bangla, Riverine People, Shocheton Foundation, Sundarban O Upakul Surakkha Andolon, Waterkeepers Bangladesh, Youth and Environment Development Organization, Young Climate Action Network, and 350.org.
On the occasion of Earth Day 2026, Artwork for the Earth: A Planet for the People was organized at Shyamoli Park Ground in Dhaka by Waterkeepers Bangladesh in collaboration with OAB Foundation and other partner organizations. The event brought together people from diverse backgrounds to promote environmental awareness, climate action, and community engagement through art, culture, and collective participation.
Manifesto Talk 2: Water, Agriculture, and Food Security Nexus brought together youth, policymakers, political representatives, and experts to discuss Bangladesh’s critical challenges related to water resources, agriculture, and food security. Organized ahead of the national elections, the dialogue encouraged political parties to present their visions and commitments for sustainable and climate-resilient development.
On 22 April 2025, young changemakers gathered in Dhaka to participate in Walk For The Earth 2025, a symbolic rally promoting climate justice and environmental sustainability. The march began at Nagar Bhaban and concluded at Shahabuddin Park, bringing together youth leaders, students, activists, and community members under the inspiring theme, “Where the world has stopped, let us begin!”
Promoting Knowledge, Leadership and Climate Awareness Among Youth Approximately 400 students from various schools and colleges of Birampur Upazila, teachers, guardians, youth volunteers, educationists, social activists, and community leaders.
A significant dialogue on transitioning from fossil fuel dependency to a just and sustainable energy future was held in Dhaka under the title “From Santa Marta to Bangladesh: Assessing Pathways to Transitioning Away From Fossil Fuels.” The event brought together youth leaders, researchers, policymakers, climate activists, farmer representatives, and civil society organizations to discuss Bangladesh’s renewable energy future, climate justice, and inclusive green development.
